The Biosecurity workshops are a good place to start addressing your on-farm biosecurity program. These are commodity-specific, one-day workshops, where a veterinarian or certified crop advisor will show you the benefits of having an on-farm biosecurity program, and identify key practices to help you enhance biosecurity measures on-farm.
Workshops are offered for:
There is also a generic livestock biosecurity workshop, which is based on the beef, sheep and goat workshops. OSCIA currently does not offer a pork biosecurity workshop. Pork producers interested in biosecurity information and resources should contact Ontario Pork, either Kathy Zurbrigg at (519) 767-4600 ext. 1208 or kathy.zurbrigg [a] ontariopork.on.ca OR Emma Payne at (519) 767-4600 ext. 1207 or emma.payne [a] ontariopork.on.ca.
The workshop is open to new and established producers. Farm families and management teams are encouraged to attend the workshop together. Taking a workshop is a first step in creating a Biosecurity Plan for your operation and identifying gaps in your current practices that could be putting your farm at risk from pests and/or disease.
After attending the workshop, you may wish to follow up with your local veterinarian or certified crop advisor to assist you in creating a dynamic and complete Biosecurity Plan for your farm.
For those who currently have a copy of the Ontario Livestock and Poultry Council’s Livestock On-Farm Biosecurity Information Guide, we recommend you bring this resource with you to the workshop. This manual provides templates for creating a biosecurity plan and may be useful in identifying questions during the workshop. Limited copies will be available at the workshop, or you can contact the Ontario Livestock and Poultry Council or download the manual.
